Let's Shift Our Perspectives
The past week I had students sharing their dislike for falling (from a pose). While I am no stranger to falling, their revelations were very thought provoking. It made me realised how similar we all are on this practice journey. The only difference how we work through our dislikes in our favour.
It is easy to do things that we like. We don't need any motivation and we are compelled to act because the process is enjoyable. It is the dislikes that we need to work through. Today I listened to a speaker made an interesting reference - attending a wedding in India is likened to going to a sauna. Both are hot, makes you sweat but good for you except one is perceived as a treat, the other as a 'torture'.
The lesson here is to change our mind or rather shift our perspective, to change the way we view the situation. The speaker made a very valid point (to me at least). It is through challenges and road blocks that our boundaries are pushed and tested. We feel uncomfortable and yet we know the process will make us better and stronger.
The longer we avoid doing something we know we must do, the longer we are prolonging our own 'sufferings'. Sometimes the only to get over our fears, dislikes, challenges or anything we don't want to do, perhaps is to shift our perspectives and simply act on it. The key is to move forward, to keep exploring and to keep experimenting.
And sometimes the only way out is through.
