The One Thing You Need To Chase Greatness

The idea of greatness sounds grand and evokes a sense of superiority. Being better than everyone else, who doesn't want that? But at what price will one be willing to pay?

Watching legendary achievers like Michael Jordan and Ronnie Coleman evokes this post. As I watched in awe being inspired by their accolade, I also realized what they did was beyond ordinary beings. It isn't to say it's impossible but it would require anyone who wants what they have accomplished to push beyond their boundaries and work hard. Like super hard.

They both have sky high working ethnics. They are relentless in being the best of the best. They are committed to their craft. They do not care about what others are saying about them. They have their goals and vision and they kept trying. They understand failures are temporary but giving up is not an option. They know the only way to get better is to practise, practise and more practise.

While the new world is focusing on working with your passion, there is a need to dig deeper and understand that success requires more than loving what you do. Having passion is good start not enough to get anyone anywhere because when challenges appear, passion alone cannot provide the solution. It takes tons of commitment, dedication, discipline, devotion and hard work.

Every successful person will tell you the SAME story. It starts with a purpose (WHY), they took daily actions relentlessly, they faced countless adversity and failures. They met haters and doubters, including themselves but they never quit. They knew their vision is grander than the roadblocks, obstacles and challenges. The reward will come but that's not their motivation. It's their purpose, their drive and their thirst that keep pushing them to get better than themselves every single time.

While I used to ask and rationalise why one is more successful than another, I have come to realise it comes down to a few simple facts:

1. Behind every success story, the driving force is more thirst and desire (hunger) to succeed.
2. While one is relaxing and dreaming, another is working hard and taking daily actions.
3. When one is in self doubt and worrying about others' opinions, the other decides only their own opinions matter.
4. One sees failure as personal, another understands failure is part of the process and uses it to get better.
5. While one waits, another creates.

Eventually it all boils down to one thing : MINDSET. Our thinking impacts our choices in life. Which means we must work on our thought process. "Change your thinking, change your life." ~ Ernest Holmes. Sounds too simple? Yes, it will not be a flick of the switch though, it requires daily grind of self discipline and mindfulness. So what price are you willing to pay for greatness?
